The LUMIX S 14-28 mm F4-5.6 MACRO
Is an affordable compact wide-angle zoom lens for the L-mount system. Featuring a magnification range that makes it suitable for everything from moving landscapes to expressive portraits, and a macro function for extreme close-ups, this versatile lens is designed to deliver outstanding performance in a wide range of photographic and video tasks.
The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO consists of 14 lenses divided into 10 groups. In addition to one aspherical ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lens and one aspherical lens, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) lens are also included. The use of aspherical lenses enables sharp details and stunning bokeh, while the three ED lenses effectively cancel chromatic aberrations.
Despite its compact size and light weight (at approx. 345 grams), the LUMIX S 14-28 mm boasts a macro function from 0.25x (at 14 mm) up to 0.5x (at 28 mm). With a minimum focusing distance of 15 cm across the entire magnification range, it can be used for close-ups with outstanding bokeh.
The smooth and quiet operation of the new 14-28 mm harmonizes perfectly with the camera's high-speed, high-precision AF system. In the nonlinear setting, the focus point undergoes a shift of varying magnitude according to the rotational speed of the ring, while in the linear setting it undergoes a shift of specific magnitude according to the rotational quantum of the ring. Sensitivity (the displacement of the focus point by the rotational quantum) can be adjusted from 90° to 360°, so as to allow excellent control of focus performance.
The LUMIX S 14-28 mm F4-5.6 MACRO is also outstanding in shooting, thanks to professional-grade features such as micro-incremental aperture for smooth exposure changes, and is able to eliminate the apparent zoom effect when varying the focus distance-so-called focus breathing, a significant problem for interchangeable lenses limited only to photography.
The robust dust- and splash-resistant design makes it suitable for use in harsh conditions, even in temperatures as low as -10°. The fluorine treatment applied to the front element is water- and oil-repellent. Filters can be mounted on the 77 mm diameter thread.
The LUMIX S 14-28 mm F4-5.6 MACRO and LUMIX S 20-60 mm F3.5-5.6 lenses share a common overall length and location of controls for convenience. The weight and center of gravity of these lenses is nearly identical; therefore, changing them requires very few seconds and minimal adjustment of attached equipment when the camera is mounted on a gimbal.
Users of the LUMIX S series now have access to three affordable zoom lenses covering the commonly used range from 14 mm wide angle to 300 mm telephoto: LUMIX S 14-28 mm F4-5.6 MACRO (S-R1428), LUMIX S 20-60 mm F3.5-5.6 (S-R2060) and LUMIX S 70-300 mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S.
