Controls and functions

For video applications, the easy-to-read f-stop engraved aperture ring can be quickly unlocked on the lens barrel for smooth and quiet aperture control.Two focus hold buttons are on the lens barrel for intuitive control and quick access to selected settings.The tactile-designed Linear Response manual focus ring provides linear control of focus.New to Sony primes, the iris lock switch prevents accidental movement of the aperture ring. This switch can also be unlocked, allowing the aperture ring to rotate smoothly and quietly.

High-performance autofocus

Taking full advantage of the latest camera bodies, the two XD linear motors ensure fast, quiet and accurate autofocusing and subject tracking. Designed to improve control for both stills and movies, this design also offers natural manual focus control when desired. Located on the lens barrel, an AF/MF switch allows tactile control of these settings.The internal focus design offers more responsive focusing performance and maintains a constant overall lens length during operation.A minimum autofocus distance of 16" enables dynamic close-up images.

Compact and durable design

Designed for use in harsh conditions, this lens features a dust- and moisture-resistant construction. All seams are sealed, buttons and switches have silicone rubber seals, and a rubber ring seals the lens mount.Fluorine coating on the front element repels water, oil, fingerprints and contaminants, making the lens easy to clean.Despite its large maximum aperture of f/1.4, complex optical design and inclusion of a high-performance AF system, this lens still manages to be compact and lightweight for everyday use, measuring 3.1 x 3.7" and weighing only 18 ounces.
